China revises solar plan upward by 50%

Beijing has further revised up its solar power development target for 2015 by 50%, according to state media. Installed solar capacity is now to reach 15GW, while wind power is to meet a 100GW target, said China National Radio, citing the National Energy Administration.

The revision has been encouraged by the rapid installation in solar power after the government unified grid feed-in tariffs for solar projects for the first time in July and offered a higher price for projects that would become operational before year-end.

Earlier, China had doubled its 2015 solar power goal to 10GW after the Japanese nuclear power crisis.
