Japan’s Chugoku to supply 13.5% more power than winter demand

Chugoku Electric Power Co expects to be able to supply 1430MW of energy in February even without any reactors online, with the 820MW No.2 unit at its sole Shimane nuclear plant entering routine checks in late January.

The utility said its capacity forecast would be 13.5% above estimated peak-hour demand for the winter. Around 550MW could be supplied to neighbouring utilities if requested, the company said.

Chugoku said it plans to increase fossil-fuel power to make up for lost nuclear capacity.
