Volkswagen chooses renewable energy in Brazil

Germany-based car maker Volkswagen plans to bring a second hydropower plant online in 2013 to help supply its Brazilian subsidiary Volkswagen do Brasil with the power it requires.

The plant is part of Volkswagen’s EUR120m investment into two hydropower plants in the country. The first car producer in Brazil to invest in the generation of renewable power, Volkswagen sited both facilities in São Paulo, where it operates three of its four plants. The plants have a joint capacity of 48.3MW and will supply nearly 40% of power requirements.
