Vietnam to become net coal importer by 2013 due to power demand, cement industry
Today’s top coal story is over in Vietnam, where Trung Dinh Quang, a senior executive for Vinacomin, the country’s coal export monopoly, has said that Vietnam will become a net coal importer by 2013, due to the booming cement industry and larger numbers of power projects.
“We think 3-5Mta is a feasible figure, although we have a target of 5-7Mta,” he said, adding that key suppliers would be Indonesia and Australia. He also said that Vinacomin is expecting domestic consumption to grow by 12-15 per cent per annum (Reuters).
